Simon Alexander has been an internationally published portrait photographer for over twenty years and has exhibited and taught in Europe and America since winning the Agfa Bursary Award for Excellence in Photography. His portraits have been exhibited at The National Portrait Gallery and The Design Museum in London and are in their permanent archives. His commissioned work has appeared in national and international magazines and advertising campaigns and his fine art images have been published in books that include Studio Portrait Photography by Pro Photo, Museum New York by Ellipsis and The Daily Book of Photography by Walter Foster Publishing.
When not making images he can be found teaching and consulting with emerging professional photographers. He is a photography educator and speaker as well as a portfolio reviewer for The Eddie Adams Workshop, Eyeist.com, ASMP, APA, NYC Fotoworks. He has taught most recently at Pratt, School of Visual Arts, The International Center of Photography and the Hallmark Institute of Photography, where he was an Industry Advisory Board Member and also a commencement speaker, guest lecturer and final portfolio panelist.
Simon was born in London, the son of architect and a painter and grew up around the world, living in Oman, Kuwait, Paris, Singapore before returning to England to study photography. His mother bought him his first real camera and instilled in him the passion for discovering the unknown and making images, since then he has pursued his singular love for the black and white portrait in a square format.
